Madeleine Galas (b. 2000 Belgium; she/they) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work attempts to capture transience; colors seen within closed eyes, the movement of light across time, fleeting memories... She is fascinated with memory's imperfect record of time and experience. Using markers and crayons to reach towards the past, or blind drawing to show the deterioration of memory, Madeleine shares the ephemeral, intimate, and often indescribable experience of memory with others.
Impression and periphery are recurring themes in her paintings, videos, and installations, emphasizing vibrance and movement according to our varied perceptions of both tactile and intangible realities. She deconstructs the chaotic architecture of consciousness using chance operations and intuition to guide her illustrations of dreams, mental maps, or the fading features of an old friend's face.
